When should a cambelt be replaced?

The cambelt (timing belt) keeps the engine in time. On many engines, if it snaps, valves hit pistons. That is a new engine money job. The interval is in the handbook, not a guess. Some cars use a chain instead. We will tell you which you have.

Years as well as miles

A belt ages even if the car sits. A five year old, low mileage car can still be due. Water pumps are often done at the same time because the labour overlaps.

Symptoms

There are often none before it goes. Do not wait for a noise. If you have no history, treat it as due until we prove otherwise.
