When should a car battery be replaced?
Batteries fail more in winter, but heat kills them too. A slow start on a cold Croydon morning is the classic. We test the battery and the alternator. Fitting a new battery on a car that is not charging is a waste.
Test, then decide
A proper test takes minutes. If the battery is tired and the charging voltage is healthy, we quote a replacement. Some cars need coding after a swap. We will say if yours does.
Not always the battery
Corroded terminals, a parasitic drain, or a failing alternator mimic a dead battery. That is why we test first.
