Dashboard warning lights explained

The handbook has the symbols. The short version: red is oil, brakes, temperature, airbag in some cars. Stop. Amber is usually “soon”. We read the actual code so you are not throwing parts at it.

Oil can, red

Oil pressure. Stop the engine. Driving it can kill the engine. Check the dipstick when it is safe, then call us. Do not keep revving it.

Engine, amber

See engine management light. Battery light can be the alternator. ABS and airbag lights are MOT-relevant too.
