What is the difference between an MOT and a service?
People mix these up all the time. An MOT says the car is legal to drive today. A service looks after the bits that wear out so it stays reliable. You can pass an MOT and still be overdue a service.
What the MOT does
The MOT is a snapshot. Brakes, lights, tyres, steering, emissions and corrosion. Pass, fail or pass with advisories. It does not change the oil. See what an MOT checks.
What a service does
A service follows the handbook. Oil and filter, other filters on a full or major, fluids, and a look at brakes and wear items. That is what keeps the engine alive and the service book stamped. How often to service.
