What if my car fails its MOT?
A fail is not a surprise bill. At Strand Motor Company, 156 Handcroft Road, Croydon, the tester produces a full report. Dangerous and major defects are listed in writing. We then quote for repairs before any work starts. You decide what happens next.
Can I drive it home?
If the MOT has expired, you should not drive the car except to a pre-booked MOT or to a place of repair in limited circumstances. If the existing MOT is still valid, you can usually drive away and book the repairs. We will tell you if anything on the report makes the car unsafe to move.
Free retest
If we carry out the fail-related repairs, the retest is free within the period DVSA allows. There is no obligation to have the work done with us. If you take the car elsewhere, a retest fee may apply when it comes back.
Advisories
Advisories are not a fail. They are items to watch. We explain which ones can wait and which ones will likely fail next year if you ignore them. We do not upsell work the car does not need. MOT advisories explained and why cars fail.
